Before you startHow to read a score

Screening tools & calculators

These are screening tools, not diagnostic tests. A score in the concerning range does not mean you have the condition, and a reassuring score does not rule it out. What an abnormal result does mean is that it is worth raising with your own physician, who can interpret it alongside your history, examination and investigations.

GuidelinesWhat clinicians use

Clinical practice guidelines

The documents physicians actually work from, in both countries I have practised in. Written for clinicians, but freely available and worth reading if you want the primary source rather than a summary of a summary.

NutritionNational guidance

Dietary guidance

Imperfect, and shaped by more than evidence alone. Still the most rigorously reviewed nutrition guidance available, and free of the commercial interests behind most of what circulates online.
